ATEX

Atmosphére Explosible. See -> Explosion protection. The term Atex is used colloquially as a synonym for the two EC explosion protection directives, namely Directive 94/9/EC [ATEX 95] and Directive 1999/92/EC [ATEX 137]. They concern the nature of components, equipment and protective systems for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and the minimum requirements for the installation and operation of systems in which explosive atmospheres are present.
