Overvoltage

Overvoltages only occur for a fraction of a second. They are therefore also known as transient voltages or transients for short. They have very short rise times of a few microseconds before dropping again comparatively slowly over a period of up to 100 microseconds. Overvoltages are caused by the following events: Lightning discharges, switching operations, electrostatic discharges. (All data without guarantee)
