Wear-free switching thanks to the capacitive buttons from Schlegel
Compared to mechanical buttons and switches, capacitive buttons react to a slight touch. Sensors are used for this, which trigger a switching action as a result of a change in the electrical finger caused by finger contact. The advantages of capacitive buttons include their insensitivity to penetrating dust. We offer almost wear-free models from Schlegel, which are equally suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
What is a capacitive button?
Capacitive buttons are characterised by the fact the front panel is fitted with sensors and electronics for evaluation. A significant feature of this button type is that there is no noticeable pressure point and no tactile feedback. As capacitive buttons do not need mechanical parts, they are also very long-lived and almost wear-free.
How does a capacitive button work?
In principle, a capacitive button has a so-called transmitter surface with transmit and receive electrodes isolated from each other. The two surfaces form a capacitor, the capacity change of which is measured. The capacity changes as a result of a finger (or a metal object) approaching and/or touching it, which can then trigger a switch action.
What are the areas of application of capacitive buttons?
Because of the closed surface with the sensors underneath, capacitive buttons are not sensitive to external influences. The typical areas of application include, among other things, medical and pharmaceutical technology and the entire chemicals industry.
What types of capacitive button are there?
We offer capacitive buttons and incremental encoder knob sets from the Schlegel RONTRON-R-JUWEL and SHORTRON series. These switches and buttons are characterised by their circular shape and low installation depth. Another feature of this series is that the contact block is already integrated into the actuator. This series uses PCB terminals and flat connections as connection technology. The fastening in the installation opening is performed using a D_26 mounting nut, which is tightened with a maximum torque of 1.5Nm.
Their suitability for environments with higher environmental stresses is characteristic of the circular switches and buttons in the RONTRON-R-JUWEL series. For this purpose, there are also models made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel. Switches and buttons from the RONTRON-R-JUWEL series are certified according to protection class IP65. Depending on the model, the switches and buttons have an actuation stroke of 1.5 or 3mm and are suitable for installation openings with a diameter of 22.3mm.
Incremental encoder knob set:
Suitable for installation openings with a diameter of 22.3mm. With rotary handle without encoder, designed for encoders with an axle diameter of 6.0mm, a thread size of 7x0.75 and an axle length of approx. 32.0mm. With silver front frame and suitable for operating temperatures from -25°C to 70°C.
Capacitive button:
Available as illuminated model of the SHORTRON series with PCB terminal. The capacitive switch has an installation depth of 19.0mm and is suitable for installation with a diameter. Assembly is performed with the D_26 mounting nut. The button is certified according to protection class IP66 / IP67/ IP69K and is designed for operating temperatures from -10°C to 60°C.
