Flexible and robust membrane switches from Schlegel
Whether to control machinery, for use in the automotive industry or in medical technology: out membrane switches are characterised by user-friendly operation and their robust design, which makes them insensitive to environmental influences. The individual membrane switches from Schlegel with a button of either 1.5 or 2.3 mm are ideal for installation in control panels or electronic housing.
What is a membrane switch?
Membrane switches are typically made from a composite of various membranes. The top membrane is called the decorative layer. Beneath this, in addition to the switch membrane is usually a spacer and adhesive membrane. Because of the membrane protection on the operating field, membrane switches are extremely robust and insensitive to penetrating dirt, water and dust. Depending on the area of use, membrane switches also resist aggressive, acidic liquids.
How do membrane switches work?
The two switch membranes of a membrane switch usually contain the live contact elements that touch each other when the switch is pressed, whereupon the contact is closed. The spacer membrane between then acts as an insulator and separates the switch membranes from each other. The most important construction element of a membrane switch is the so-called snap dome, which transfers the button pressure to the electronics.
Where are membrane switches used?
Whether in industrial PCs of devices that must be easy to clean and disinfect: Membrane switches are suitable for a large number of applications in food and medicine technology. Compared to a normal switch, these are characterised by excellent dirt and water resistance and are very long-lived.
Compared to a touchscreen, they also have the advantage that they give haptic feedback when pressed as a result of their tangible pressure point. This feature is important, above all, in areas where employees wear gloves.
What types of membrane switches / membrane buttons are there?
We have Schlegel membrane switches from the RONTRON-R-Juwel, SHORTRON and SHORTRON Zwischenbau series, either illuminated and with a button drop of 1.5mm or 2.3mm.
