What is an ÖLFLEX cable?
“Ölflex” is a popular brand for connection and control cables. The Stuttgart manufacturer LAPP introduced this designation in 1957 for the first industrially produced wires for mechanical engineering and plant construction. Today, the name Ölflex stands for a broad programme of control cables that cover virtually every application. As the name suggests. the Ölflex cables are “oil-resistant” and “flexible” to a large extent. These control cables exist for dry and wet environments, indoors and outdoors and for various ambient temperatures.
As a result of their flexibility, ÖLFLEX cables are used almost everywhere when motors, pumps, inverters and other power units need to be connected. Ölflex cables are still a permanent force in mechanical engineering, plant and power unit construction. In addition, they are used, for example, in the areas of measurement and control technology, heating and air-conditioning, vehicle construction, food and drink, wind power and photovoltaics, as well as in electrical appliances.
Are Ölflex cables UV-resistant?
UV-resistant ÖLFLEX cables are, for example, the ÖLFLEX® CLASSIC 400 P or ÖLFLEX® FD 855 P series.
Ölflex control cables
A large part of the LAPP Ölflex is universally suitable for use as a control cable. These flexible cables mostly have PVC sheaths or halogen-free sheaths and are flexible and oil-resistant to different extents. These Ölflex cables are available in common versions by the metre, e.g. Ölflex 3 x 0.25 mm2, Ölflex 5 x 1.5 mm2 and Ölflex 5 x 1.5 mm2. Many of them have the familiar colour labelling. In others, the cores are numbered. Most standard cables are considered best sellers from LAPP under the Ölflex Classic brand. Above all, the Ölflex Classic 110 series is worth noting here. This is the absolute classic in the area of Ölflex control cables.
Wires for intrinsically safe electric circuits can be identified from the blue sheath colour. LAPP offers a large selection of halogen-free cables for standard applications. These include particularly flexible, sheathed and cold-resistant versions and certified wires for railway technology.

Ölflex control cables for cable tracks
Some control cables of the Ölflex brand are intended for use in cable tracks or other dynamic applications. Thus, the Ölflex Classic FD 810 in the PVC sheath offers increased performance for millions of bend cycles and travel of up to 10 metres. We offer these cables with the desired pin numbers and cable cross-sections.
The dynamic versions also include control cables of the Ölflex CONTROL series with its increased torsion resistance. Ölflex cables for robots are even more flexible. They tolerate simultaneous bending and twisting. The torsion angle, depending on the type, can be up to 360°.
Ölflex shielded for disruption-free transmission
Shielded Ölflex cables are the right choice for environments with high EMC requirements. These Ölflex control cables are proven in mechanical engineering and plant construction as well as in conveyor technology and air-conditioning. The frequently used models include the Ölflex Classic 115 CY. By omitting a PVC inner sheath, the cables are lighter and thinner than usual wires. They are available with 2 to 25 cores and are suitable for rated voltages to 300/500 V. Another popular control cable in a shielded version is the Lapp Ölflex FD 855 CP. This is a highly flexible, halogen-free and shielded control cable with a wear and oil-resistant PUR sheath. It is particularly suitable for energy transmission chains and moving machine parts.
