Cable connectors plastic
Plastic cable glands from Lapp and WISKA
Whether they are used to ensure oil-resistance, as protection against vibrations or for tension relief: plastic cable glands are cheap to buy and easy to use. They are used in almost every industrial sector and, depending on the model, have a variable clamping area to accommodate one or more cables. They also protect the inside of the housing of electrical equipment from water and dust penetration.
What is a plastic cable gland?
A plastic cable gland usually consists of a union nut, the clamping area, a sealing ring and a locking nut for fastening the cable gland in the housing.
Because plastic cable glands must withstand the most adverse of conditions, it is important that the materials used are of high quality and that the threads are precisely machined. The plastic cable gland from Lapp is characterised, among other things, by its dust and water tightness. Depending on the model, plastic cable glands have IP68 or IP69 certification. The Lapp SKINTOP cable glands are available with a practical click system, or a connector optimised for kink protection with extended bending protection for securing flexible cables.

Where is a plastic cable gland used?
Plastic cable glands are versatile and, thanks to a variable clamping area, are suitable for cable entry of single or multiple cables in control cabinets or housings made of metal. Since the cable glands are cheaper than the metal versions, they are used where the requirements for the connector are not so high.
Properties of a plastic cable gland
Angled plastic cable glands are used, among other things, to protect cables from bending and to allow cables to be laid in different directions. Furthermore, depending on the certification, the plastic cable glands are waterproof in respect of splash/spray water or temporary submersion.
The EMC cable gland is usually made of brass, but there are also variants made of plastic that counteract electromagnetic interference. This includes the WISKA cable gland with MagikNUT system and special EMC locking nut. WISKA's range also includes plastic ATEX cable gland which counteracts sparking and is used in potentially explosive environments. In addition to conventional variants where cables are fed through the clamping area and fixed by a union nut, there are also splittable plastic cable glands. It makes it much easier to feed through and fix pre-assembled cables.
Thread sizes of plastic cable glands
In addition to the still common plastic PG glands (armoured conduit thread), as well as inch versions, as are common in North and South America, cable gland with metric thread according to DIN EN 60423 is prescribed. We stock plastic cable glands from WISKA and Lapp in the following metric sizes:
- M8 plastic cable gland
- M10 plastic cable gland
- M12 plastic cable gland
- M16 plastic cable gland
- M20 plastic cable gland
- M25 plastic cable gland
- M32 plastic cable gland
- M75 plastic cable gland
Plastic cable glands with armoured thread (PG thread according to the old standard DIN EN 46430) are only permitted in exceptional cases, but are still used. Plastic PG glands from WISKA and Lapp and their metric equivalents at a glance:
- PG 7 plastic cable gland, corresponds to M12 x 1.5
- PG 9 plastic cable gland, corresponds to M16 x 1.5
- PG11 plastic cable gland, corresponds to M20 x 1.5
- PG 16 plastic cable gland, corresponds to M25 x 1.5
- PG 21 plastic cable gland, corresponds to M32 x 1.5
- PG 36 plastic cable gland, corresponds to M40 x 1.5
- PG 42 plastic cable gland, corresponds to M50 x 1.5
