Robust metal conduit from Flexa
Stainless steel conduits and tin-plated tubes made of copper braiding are suitable for bundling, protecting and shielding cables. We supply high-quality metal conduits from Flexa made of copper and steel braiding.
What is a metal conduit?
Meta conduits are mainly used for cable protection. For this reason, metal conduits are resistant to external influences and are used in areas where signal lines need to be protected against damage and electromagnetic interference. A metal conduit or metal braided sleeve is made of a metal braiding that can be compressed. For the cable to be threaded, the metal conduit is compressed, thus enlarging the inner diameter and allowing the wires to be threaded effortlessly into the conduit. Manufacturers such as Flexa have metal conduits of different diameters in their range. These metal conduits are usually made of galvanised steel or tin-plated copper.
Our range of Flexa metal conduits encompasses the following variants among others:
- Metal conduits made of stainless steel: Flexa FLEXAgraff-VA protective metal conduit, spiral-wound, double-interlocked profile. Suitable for a temperature range from -200°C to 600°C. Available with outer diameters of 6 - 56 mm and inner diameters of 4 - 52 mm.
- Flexible metal cable conduits: e.g. from the Flexa SPR-VA series with spirally rolled profile made of bare VA. Available in versions with an outer diameter of 10 - 56 mm and inner diameters of 7.8 - 51 mm.
- In addition, we supply metal conduits made of galvanised steel as well as flexible metal conduits from Flexa.

The metal conduit and its properties
Metal conduit is flexible, bendable and hugs the cables tightly. Metal conduits consist, among other things, of wire braiding that ensures the flexible nature of the metal conduits and permits a large bending radius. In the plant construction and electrical sector in particular, the metal conduit scores with its flexibility and high protective effect. Another advantage is that a metal conduit – depending on the material – is heat-resistant up to a temperature of several hundred degrees. Thanks to the braided structure, a metal conduit is much more flexible than metal corrugated tubing, as well as being air-permeable. To ensure that flexible metal tubing is insensitive to corrosion and oxidation, the metal braided sleeve is made of stainless steel, galvanised steel, tin-plated copper or brass.
Common materials for metal conduits
Ring corrugated tubing, which is used in the sanitary sector among others, is preferably made of stainless steel. The durable metal corrugated tubing and stainless steel corrugated tubing used e.g. in the food and chemical industry, is usually made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel.
Diameter and sizes of metal conduits
Depending on the number and cross-section of the cables to be bundled, there are metal conduits with different nominal sizes, which also have a variable inner diameter of 5 to 40 mm and beyond. The basic rule is that the cross-section of the metal conduits increases when they are compressed. No matter the nominal size, a metal conduit such as ring corrugated tubing and metal corrugated tubing can also be equipped with a connector in order to connect several conduit sections together gastight.
FAQ - frequently asked questions about metal conduits
What are the properties of metal conduits?
Metal conduits are single-interlocked, mechanically very stable and above all pressure-resistant but still flexible. Double-interlocked metal conduits are also twist-proof due to their double hooking.
What diameters of metal conduits are available?
Metal conduits are available in the diameters 5mm - 56mm.
What are metal conduits required for?
Metal protective tubes provide outstanding protection against mechanical loads or hot metal chips.
What materials are metal conduits made of?
Protective metal conduits are made of galvanised steel.
How is a protective metal conduit constructed?
A protective metal conduit consists of a spirally rolled profile made of galvanised steel. If this is double rolled, it is termed a double-interlocked protective metal conduit; this is more stable but no longer as flexible.
What should be taken into account during selection?
The requirements on the conduit and the area of application are decisive for selection.
What approvals do metal conduits have?
VDE and Ex approval for explosion-protected areas.
