A cable for demanding sensor technology
A sensor cable is used in a wide variety of installations in nearly all industrial sectors. Measuring, testing, monitoring, automating - whether recording process parameters in the field of process engineering or analysing product characteristics in production areas of industry, implementing automation in production or controlling and monitoring relevant product properties, the extensive range of sensor cables facilitates the selection of the suitable connection of sensors and measurement technology with maximum benefit in each case.
Impressive product properties for perfect cabling
Regardless of whether the sensor cable has a PVC or PUR jacket, the product properties of the different sensor cable types are impressive. While the above mentioned types are not suitable for use in permanently moving applications, the drag chain capable cables here are ideally suitable. The outer diameter of 4.1 and 4.8 mm also allows for installation in clearly arranged spaces.
Designed for 300 - 900 volts of peak operating voltage, the sensor cables allow for use in all areas in which high voltage current is not necessary for operation. The material withstands temperatures from -5°C to +70°C and is highly flexible, with a minimum bending radius of 10.0 times the outer diameter in moving installations and 5.0 times the outer diameter in fixed installations.
First class materials in the cable construction
The strands of sensor cables with PVC jacket consist of bare copper wires and have a fine wire conductor construction according to VDE 0295. While the core insulation is composed of PVC, the cores comply with DIN EN 50044. For a high-quality version, the cores are heavily twisted together due to the short lay length. The solid outer jacket made of PVC makes the cable durable for use in industry.
Cables with a PUR jacket and the additional property of drag chain capability, which is ideal for motion-durable and highly flexible applications in motion-intensive assembly sections, have, in addition to the same construction as the cables with PVC jacket, strands of bare copper wire. Here, the outer jacket made of polyurethane provides the necessary durability.
Overview of all sensor cables
Cable type | Jacket / Shielding | Properties |
LifYY | PVC / without shielding | Core insulation PVC |
LIFY11Y | PUR / without shielding | Core insulation PVC |
LIF9Y11Y | PUR / without shielding | Core insulation PP. Cable-track capable. |
LIF9YC11Y | PUR / shielded | Core insulation PP. Drag chain capable. |
The four sensor cables are primarily suited for assembly sections in automation, plant manufacturing or machine manufacturing. Two versions with a differing number of cores and cross sections both provide great flexibility.
While cables with PVC jacket or PUR jacket are primarily used in standard assembly sections, the drag chain capable cables are particularly useful in assembly sections where the material used must be robust and highly abrasion resistant. The products LiF9y11y and LiF9yc11y, both with an outer diameter of 4.6 mm, are available for this purpose. These cables are mainly used in the rail industry or in production centres that process raw materials. Shielded sensor cables are used in installations where the cables must be shielded from interference.
