The success story of Phoenix Contact GmbH & Co. KG began in Essen in 1923. With the development and sale of contact wire clamps, company founder Hugo Knümann laid the foundations for electrical trams as the company Phoenix Elektrizitätsgesellschaft. A merger and additions to the management team required the company, which now had more than 300 employees, to move to Blomberg. In 1982 the company was renamed Phoenix Contact GmbH, in order to take into account the increasingly integrated electronic parts division and the high rate of growth.
