H07V-K – The flexible PVC single core
The H07V-K single core is suitable for installation in conduits, both on and under plaster. The wire is not suitable for installation directly under plaster. The single core cables are also used in closed installation conduits and for the internal wiring of electrical installations, appliances, switch cabinets and terminal boxes.
In an electrical installation, in which electrical energy is permanently supplied to mobile consumers, the main circuits are connected to one another. The H07V-K single core is used so that this works smoothly and without faults or external influences.
H07V-K stranded wire is also used for the wiring or control on plants and machines. In contrast to the H05V-K single core cable, which is approved for a rated voltage of 300/500V, the H07V-K single core cable is approved for a rated voltage of 450/750 V.
What does the designation H07V-K mean?
The designation H07V-K is a so-called type designation. This designation provides information about the type of cable, its materials and the maximum rated voltage of the conductor. The type designation helps you to select the right cable for the required application.
The letters specify the cable’s properties and the materials used; the numbers stand for the number of cores and their size. The H07V-K core cable can be translated as follows:
The letter H means that the H07V-K single core is a harmonised cable. The following number combination 07 is the designation for the rated voltage. In this case for 450/750 volts. The letter V designates the core insulation material. V stands for polyvinyl chloride, or PVC. The last letter of the type designation defines the conductor structure. K stands for fine wire for fixed installation. Other possibilities include U = single wire, F = finely stranded, Y = stranded conductor or ö = oil resistant.
- H – harmonised wire, the type identification is valid throughout Europe in accordance with the (HAR) DIN standard VDE0281/0282/0292
- 07 - designates the rated voltage, here the approval for 450V between the outer conductor and the earth potential (PE), and 750 V between the outer conductors;
- V – wire or core insulation made of PVC
- K – fine wire
- 1 - number of cores
- X
- 1.5 - cross-section of the conductor in mm²
How is a H07V-K single core cable constructed?
The construction of the H07V-K single core cable consists of finely stranded copper conductors. The stranded wire made of bare copper wires corresponds to stranded conductor class 5 in conformity with IEC60228/VDE0295. The core insulation consist of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The H07V-K single core has outstanding product properties to safely wire the various end devices.
- The piece good is supplied in a handy cardboard box to prevent cable tangling and to ensure easy removal for installation.
- The high degree of flexibility of the wires enables uncomplicated retrofitting or replacement on the existing installation.
- The single cores come in different colours to facilitate trouble-free connection and define the respective function. The following colours are available: black, blue, green/yellow, brown, grey, dark blue, ultramarine blue, yellow, green, orange, pink, red, purple and white.
- The wires are self-extinguishing and flame-retardant according to IEC 60332-1-2, therefore, they withstand temperatures ranging from -5°C to 70°C.
Differences between H07V-K 1x1.5, H07V-K 1x10 and H07V-K 1x16?
The type designation can be supplemented with additional information. This specifies the wire in more detail. Let us take the following three designations as an example: H07V-K 1x1.5, H07V-K 1x10 and H07V-K 1x16.
The first number stands for the number of cores. In a single core cable such as the H07V-K, this is always 1. This is already revealed in the name single core. What can vary, however, is the cross-section. This is specified by the second number after the X. In the three examples, the cross-sections are 1.5 mm², 10 mm² and 16 mm², respectively. The cross-section of the conductor is always specified in square millimetres.
Areas of application of the H07V-K single core cable
Single core cables are available in conductor cross-sections of 1.5 mm² to 35 mm² and in the colours listed above. This ensures trouble-free cabling for installations in plant and appliance manufacturing, in switchgear and in switch cabinet manufacturing, as well as in terminal boxes and internal appliance wiring. Installation is possible on and under plaster, in conduits and in closed installation conduits. For direct installation on trays, ducts and troughs, they can only be used as equipotential bonding conductors.
