Ölflex Classic 115 CY – Slim line despite strong shielding
The Ölflex Classic 115 CY with shielding has a smaller outer diameter than other common shielded wires of similar design. The Ölflex Classic 115 CY 5 G 0.5, for example, has an outer diameter of 7 mm. The similarly designed Ölflex Classic 110 CY 5 G 0.5 PVC cable, by contrast, measures 8.4 mm. This can quickly make the difference between “fits” and “does not fit”.
How can this be?
This shielded Ölflex cable has no inner jacket. The inner jacket is easily dispensable for a permanently installed shielded cable.
Small diameter saves installation space
If the shielded cable does not move, or rarely moves, the inner jacket can be safely omitted. Therefore, in many cases, the Ölflex 115 CY is a space saving solution for a shielded cable. It offers a significantly reduced diameter and lower weight in every size. It can indeed be moved on occasion. In this case, a generous bend radius of 20 times the outer diameter (OD) must be observed. In a fixed installation, 6 x OD is sufficient. This Ölflex cable is versatile as a connection and control cable. It is found in machine and plant manufacturing as well as in measuring, control and regulation technology. It is used for connecting devices in heating and air conditioning systems. It is used in environments that are sensitive to electromagnetic radiation.
Properties & Applications - Well protected against interference
The cores of the Ölflex Classic 115 CY consist of finely stranded wire made of pure copper, protected by PVC insulation. The cores are twisted in layers and wrapped in plastic film. On top of this is the shielding in the form of a tinned copper braid. The resistance to interfering signals does not depend on the presence of an inner jacket. The high degree of coverage of the shielding contributes to this. The wire has a rated voltage of 300/500V at a test voltage of 4000V (core/core) or 2000V (core/shield). The shielding is also made of durable PVC. One strength of this jacket is its good chemical resistance. This is on a par with the familiar high resistance of the Ölflex Classic 100 and the Ölflex Classic 110.
Usable in a wide range of temperatures
The temperature range of the Ölflex Classic 115 CY depends on the frequency of movement. In a fixed installation, it is usable from -40°C to + 80°C. With occasional movement, temperatures between -5°C and +70°C are still permitted. It is suitable for torsional movements, which typically occur in wind turbines. This shielded Ölflex cable is available in many different variations. The core sizes range from 0.5 mm to an impressive 35 mm. The number of cores per line ranges from 2 to 34, with or partially without a protective conductor. The right slim, shielded wire can almost always be found in this large selection.
